After Selling Hundreds of Thousands of E-Bikes, This Company Is Building AI Mobility Products

Summary

Chinese smart light-mobility company Daji Intelligent Mobility has completed a nearly RMB 100 million Pre-B financing round led by Tongxin Capital. The company says the funds will support new-product development, intelligent technology upgrades, global branding and supply-chain improvements. After focusing on E-bikes for a decade, Daji is expanding from folding commuter bikes into Dirt Bikes, fat-tire models and other outdoor products, while targeting a broader smart light-mobility and AI Mobility platform. Its core market is the mass segment priced at roughly $500 to $2,000, where it says Chinese supply-chain and cost advantages are strongest; the company also operates a separate U.S. outdoor brand, which contributes about 20% of revenue and has grown more than 25% in its segment over the past two years. Daji’s first electric Wagon, priced at about $1,200, combines powered driving and rider capability with a handcart format for camping, beaches and yards. The current product does not support intelligent following, but future versions are planned to add target recognition, automatic following and obstacle avoidance. The company eventually wants the Wagon to become a general-purpose mobile base that can carry cargo or people. Daji says Costco alone sold more than 100,000 units in 2020, while major retail channels now account for more than half of sales and its U.S. and European network exceeds 1,000 offline partners. Its strategy is to define products around market and channel requirements, combine mature components from suppliers with in-house drive algorithms, and scale certified products globally. AI capabilities remain in development, and the company describes its longer-term direction as gradually adding intelligence to electrified products rather than immediately building a fully autonomous system.
