Echodot Is an Open-Source Desktop App for AI Replies in Your Tone

Summary

Echodot is a free, open-source desktop application designed to draft replies in a user's personal writing style. A global hotkey, Command-Shift-E on macOS or Ctrl-Shift-E on Windows, reads context from the clipboard, generates a reply, and automatically copies the result for immediate pasting. The app is local-first by default and works with Ollama, while also offering optional OpenRouter support for users who provide their own API key. Tone presets and writing samples can be used to personalize the generated text, and responses can stream as they are produced. Echodot requires no account and says it includes no tracking or subscription, and it is released under the MIT license. The project uses Tauri 2, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and a Rust backend for global hotkeys and system integration. It is still an early v0.1 release, with the author seeking feedback on the workflow, prompt quality, and useful day-to-day features.
