Solus Linux Adopts Formal Policy for AI-Assisted Contributions

Solus Linux has introduced a formal policy governing the use of AI and large language model tools in project contributions. Developers may use AI to assist with code and package changes, but they remain fully responsible for the submitted work and must test it before submission. When AI assistance is used, the commit should include an “Assisted-by LLM” note. Only human developers may submit contributions; automated bots are not allowed to submit them directly. The policy is stricter for written material: Solus prohibits fully or partly AI-generated content in its blog and official communications. Contributors must not conceal AI involvement, and work may be rejected or the contributor blocked from future contributions if they do so. Solus says the rules are intended to preserve quality and maintainability while encouraging open collaboration rather than monitoring every development step. The policy draws on the Budgie Desktop AI policy, which in turn reflects ideas from projects including the Linux kernel and Fedora. Solus also says the policy may change as AI tools become more common in software development.
