clipx Brings AI-Assisted Video, Photo, PDF, and LaTeX Editing to Mac

Summary

clipx is an open-source native macOS creative suite that combines a multi-track video editor, layered photo editor, PDF editor, and text/LaTeX editor in one application. Its AI assistant operates those editors through tool calls, making the same kinds of changes a user could make manually; each change appears on the normal undo stack, so users can inspect it, undo it, or take over. The app supports local models through Ollama or LM Studio, while hosted-model use is accompanied by an egress ledger showing what data was sent. Its capabilities include video trimming, fades, keyframes, effects, photo redaction, OCR and PDF extraction, LaTeX diagnostics, file conversion, and exact or semantic search across a locally indexed library. clipx is distributed under Apache-2.0 with no account, subscription, watermark, or required uploads. It requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon, and the project documents incomplete areas including timeline track management and several PDF editing features.
