Nvidia Raises Seven-Year-Old Shield TV Pro Price by $100, Citing AI-Driven Component Costs

Summary

Nvidia has raised the price of the Shield TV Pro by $100, taking the streaming device from its 2019 launch price of $199.99 to $299.99 effective October 2, 2026. The company told Ars Technica that memory and other component costs have increased substantially across the industry, and explicitly connected the increase to the supply-chain effects of generative AI. The current Shield TV Pro launched in 2019 with Android TV, AI upscaling, broad hardware media decoding, and an aging but still capable Tegra X1+ processor. Its cheaper non-Pro model, originally priced at $149.99, has been discontinued. Nvidia says it still actively manufactures the Shield and sells every unit it makes, leaving new devices exposed to current component costs rather than a pre-AI inventory buffer. The product has also been difficult to find in recent months; it remains out of stock on Nvidia's store but is available at the new price through Best Buy. Ars Technica says the higher price may support renewed production, but makes the already niche device less attractive for ordinary streaming unless buyers need its codec support or Plex server capability.
