Sean Parker Is Rebuilding Stability AI Around Music

Summary

Sean Parker is repositioning Stability AI as a maker of AI tools for music professionals, alongside CEO Prem Akkaraju. Parker joined an $80 million rescue of the image-generation startup two years ago, after overspending and internal turmoil contributed to founder Emad Mostaque’s departure. In late August, Stability announced $76 million from investors including Sony, Warner, and Universal; the music companies also licensed their catalogs for training as part of the deal. The company has since released three audio models and AI music-editing software. The tools can generate complete instrumental tracks or short passages from text prompts. Parker says a planned update will allow users to guide generation by humming a melody or beatboxing a drum pattern. The move represents the company’s effort to rebuild around music after its earlier focus on image generation and financial difficulties.
