Artbucket Brings Brand Asset Governance to AI Agents
Summary
Artbucket is an open-source, self-hosted digital asset management and brand platform that stores assets, brand rules, usage rights, releases, and provenance in one system. People use its web app and portals, while AI agents query the same data through an MCP server and code accesses it through a REST API, CLI, or Git. Its checks can determine whether an asset is approved for a channel and territory, explain a refusal, identify a replacement, and return a rendition URL at a requested size and format. The MCP endpoint supports consent and permission levels for suggesting, reading, or editing, with agent credentials bounded by the user’s access. Artbucket also provides a Claude Code plugin and skills integration for other agents. The core can be self-hosted with Postgres and S3-compatible storage, or deployed using documented server options; the project says there is no telemetry in the self-hosted core. Features include asset search, typed and versioned brand rules, per-asset rights, release pinning and rollback, portals, scoped access, human approval for uploads and agent suggestions, C2PA and IPTC/XMP provenance handling, brand-as-code synchronization, and cookie-free usage insights. The v1 API and MCP tools are frozen for 1.x compatibility, and the project is licensed under AGPL-3.0, with commercial licensing available from Pwnera SAS.
