RemoveMacAI Disables Apple Intelligence and Removes Its macOS Models
Summary
RemoveMacAI is a command-line utility for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27 that disables Apple Intelligence, removes its downloaded models, and prevents macOS from downloading them again. It addresses the system’s lack of a single Apple Intelligence switch and the fact that models can remain on disk after features are disabled. The tool can be installed with a one-line script or Homebrew; the installer downloads a release, verifies its SHA-256 checksum, runs from a temporary directory, and installs nothing. It shows the current state and requests confirmation before opening System Settings for approval of the required configuration profile. That profile applies Apple’s restriction keys, forces settings without restriction keys, redirects model downloads to a closed local port, and leaves System Integrity Protection enabled. Apple’s asset service releases the foundation, image-generation, Genmoji, Spatial Photos, Photos Clean Up, and Xcode completion models, while macOS removes the files on its own schedule. Users can retain selected features, preview changes with a dry run, inspect model sizes, and revert all changes; removing the profile restores the previous settings and allows models to return when needed. The tool disables Siri-related features, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, summaries, inline predictions, several Photos and Xcode features, Visual Intelligence, and some apps using Apple’s on-device models. Dictation remains available. The project supports Apple silicon and macOS 27, with version 0.2.3 or later required on macOS 27.0.1. It makes no network requests and collects no data, but Storage settings may continue counting deleted models until macOS finishes removing them.
