Union.ai Opens Self-Serve Access Through AWS Marketplace

Summary

Union.ai has opened a self-serve entry point for its managed machine-learning platform through AWS Marketplace. Customers can subscribe using their existing AWS procurement relationship, connect an Amazon EKS cluster, run production workloads in their own cloud account, and begin with a 30-day free trial without first booking a sales call. The company says the change targets a gap between strong interest from Flyte users and the small number of Union customers: during the previous 30 days, developers at more than 1,600 prospective companies were actively using Flyte and nearly 300 had self-deployed it, while 33 were Union customers. The platform keeps its control plane hosted by Union and runs the data plane in the customer’s cloud, so data, code, and compute remain within the customer’s perimeter. To support self-service, Union redesigned cluster registration and data-plane management. Customers enter identifiers for required AWS resources, including an EKS cluster, S3 bucket, ECR repository, and system and task IAM roles, then run one generated Helm command to install an outbound agent. The agent uses a client certificate and private key during bootstrap, connects outward without requiring inbound ports or exposed Kubernetes credentials, and enables Union to install and manage the remaining data plane and observe cluster health. IAM access remains in the customer account through scoped, IRSA-backed roles. The release uses the same Union operator and control-plane/data-plane architecture as larger deployments rather than a reduced product. The initial version is AWS-only, requires AWS Marketplace for billing, and does not yet provide self-service changes to underlying node groups such as instance types, GPU capacity, or scaling ranges. Union says in-product billing is planned for about a month later, while broader cloud support, resource-aware scheduling, and cost insights are future work. Flyte remains open source, and existing Flyte code can run on Union.
