Friday Assistant: An Open-Source Voice AI Companion Built with Flutter

Summary

Friday Assistant is an open-source, Flutter-based personal AI companion designed around voice interaction and a “sci-fi first” interface. Its central orb reacts to voice amplitude and changes state while the system listens, processes, or speaks, while a neural HUD displays system status and memory-node information. The assistant uses Groq API with Llama 3.3 70B for inference and exposes an agentic workflow that can search the web, access stored memories, and synthesize a response. It supports tools for weather, news, and stock-price lookups, as well as saving and searching personal facts through a Supabase-backed vault. A memory-auditor sub-agent checks new information against existing memories to reduce conflicts. Its Proactive Sentinel Mode runs scheduled background checks related to schedules, weather, and the environment, then can issue contextual notifications such as weather warnings for an upcoming outdoor meeting. The project also integrates speech-to-text, text-to-speech, haptic feedback, sound effects, and support for English, French, German, Spanish, and Hindi. It targets Android, iOS, web, and desktop through Flutter. The repository says personal memories are protected in a Supabase instance with row-level security, while audio is processed in real time and not stored. Setup requires Flutter 3.10 or newer, a Supabase project with specified tables, and Groq credentials; the project is licensed under MIT.
