Ryze AI Hack Invites Developers to Build with Small On-Device Models

Summary

Ryze AI Hack is a four-week virtual hackathon focused on applications powered entirely by on-device AI models with no more than 500 million parameters per model. Participants may combine multiple models, but every model must stay within the limit and all AI processing must run inside the application; OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and other inference APIs are prohibited, while non-AI APIs are allowed. Projects can target desktops, mobile devices, browsers, or edge devices, with the organizers emphasizing practical benefits of local execution such as speed, cost, privacy, accessibility, or creative uses of small models. The winner receives the entire $1,000 prize, while every participant receives a certificate and a place in the project gallery. Registration opens September 8, 2026, the kickoff and hacking period begin September 29, submissions are due October 27, and winners will be announced November 12, with all times listed as UTC. Eligible GitHub repositories must be public, created after September 10, and include a prescribed first line in the README. Participants must also join the event’s Discord server.
