Trump Announces AI “Super Intelligence Force” Led by Intelligence Director
Summary
President Trump announced the formation of a federal “Super Intelligence Force” after meeting with leaders of major artificial intelligence companies and amid calls for stronger guardrails. Trump said the force will coordinate with the government to keep the United States leading in “super intelligence,” the term he directed federal agencies to use instead of artificial intelligence. It will engage consumers, public-interest groups, religious organizations, infrastructure providers and industry leaders. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the force, alongside FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon research and engineering under secretary and chief technology officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. They will report to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The announcement followed a White House meeting with leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia and Elon Musk’s SpaceXAI. At that meeting, the companies signed voluntary safety standards that Trump called “morally binding.” The one-page accord commits them to four layers of controls and audits, including internal evaluations, external-firm audits and board reviews, and to meet regularly on safety standards and best practices.
