OpenAltFinder launches an AI-free version of its open-source alternatives directory

Summary

After running OpenAltFinder for nearly 16 months, its creator says the directory has grown substantially and is receiving more submissions built with AI assistance or “vibe coding.” The creator is skeptical about the quality and longevity of such projects, but wants to give contributors a way to showcase their work. OpenAltFinder already uses an “AI-assisted” label, which now appears on a majority of submissions. The new AI-free version, available at noai.openaltfinder.com, is intended to list projects that do not use AI assistance and was inspired by DuckDuckGo. Classification is currently a manual process and is not yet fully accurate. The creator plans to add automated pipeline checks that detect commits made by AI agents.
