Hatoba: Open-Source SSH Client with an AI Assistant

Summary

Hatoba is an MIT-licensed desktop SSH client for Windows, Linux, and macOS, built with Rust, Tauri 2, React, and xterm.js. Its main feature is an AI assistant panel beside each terminal: the assistant can read the terminal, run approved commands, and read, edit, or search host files to diagnose and fix problems. Users can approve every command and edit it first, allow a selected model to approve commands classified as safe, or disable approval; changed files are shown as diffs that can be undone. The client works with OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic APIs, including local models, and supports skills and MCP servers. Optional synchronization deploys a Cloudflare Worker and D1 database in the user’s own account, while data is encrypted locally before transmission. Hatoba derives keys from a master password with Argon2id and encrypts items with AES-256-GCM; the sync service stores ciphertext and sign-in hashes. The application also includes SSH config import, ProxyJump and proxy support, SFTP, port forwarding, key management, host metrics, and offline operation. Windows receives the most testing, while Linux and macOS are less tested; the macOS build is Apple Silicon-only and not notarized.
