European Cities Deploy NVIDIA AI Agents for Urban Operations
Summary
Cities across Europe and the wider EMEA region are working with NVIDIA and local software, infrastructure and integration partners to apply physical AI, agentic applications and digital twins to urban operations. The projects use NVIDIA accelerated computing together with Cosmos open models, the Metropolis Blueprint for video search and summarization, Nemotron open models and Omniverse libraries. These systems are being tested or deployed for road and equipment maintenance, mobility, urban planning, public safety, energy management, compliance, climate resilience, citizen services and the handling of hazardous materials. In the U.K., projects with K2K cover the Liverpool City Region, Jersey and Belfast, including mobility, safety, transport and public-service planning. In France, Côte-d’Or, Akila and ThinkDeep built operations agents for more than 500 public buildings; the sovereign digital twin reduced document search from weeks to minutes and cut operating costs by 10%, with a 30% reduction targeted at scale. Other examples include cargo and safety analysis at Port Sud de France, a locally operated AI factory serving municipalities in the Milan region, and a Port of Antwerp-Bruges pilot using synthetic data to prepare for oil-spill warnings. Gothenburg is developing an Omniverse-based digital twin for accessibility and crowd simulation, while Honeywell is deploying a related system at Dubai Fairmont Hotel. NVIDIA says scaling these pilots requires locally operated AI factories that let cities customize models and retain control of data and operations. Partners including Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Supermicro, Nebius, Net Zero Compute, EY and Accenture are contributing infrastructure or integration expertise. The article presents expansion across departments and neighboring municipalities as a broader objective, but the examples remain at different stages of testing and deployment.
