First-Generation HomePod Mini Will Not Support Siri AI, Apple Clarifies

Summary

Apple has clarified that Siri AI support will be limited to the second-generation HomePod mini, correcting an earlier CNET report that said the first-generation model would receive the feature in a later software update. The correction says only the HomePod mini 2 will support Siri AI. Apple’s published fine print did not explicitly mention Siri AI support for either HomePod mini generation when the report was first reviewed, and the company was contacted for comment. Setting up Siri AI on the HomePod mini 2 requires a paired iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. A supported paired device is also required for requests involving a user’s personal context. After Siri AI is enabled, however, users without an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad can still access broad world knowledge, more natural conversations, and improved music discovery. The HomePod mini 2 launches October 30 and uses an S10 chip, replacing the S5 in the first-generation model.
