Chinese Women Seek Silicon Valley Partners Working in AI

Summary

Matchmakers serving Chinese singles in North America say more clients are specifically seeking partners who work in artificial intelligence in Silicon Valley, rather than engineers generally. Qinghua Zhao of 2RedBeans says Anthropic and OpenAI employees are viewed as especially desirable, while Bay Area matchmaker Amy Yang reports that women sometimes travel from elsewhere or consider extended stays in San Francisco to meet AI workers. One Los Angeles client, Sue Zhong, paid $1,500 for three introductions and said she is interested in people who want to change the world through AI. Another divorced businesswoman described marriage partly as an asset decision and said she is particularly interested in men whose AI-company stock could appreciate, citing reported plans for an Anthropic IPO and past employee share sales at OpenAI. The matchmakers say finding suitable candidates requires referrals through databases, friends, technology-company contacts and other matchmakers because many AI workers have limited time for socializing. They also describe their expectations: potential partners are often expected to have their own careers, education and stable Bay Area employment, while the matchmakers characterize some technically trained men as less comfortable with emotional interaction.
