Linus Torvalds Rejects Restrictions on AI-Assisted Kernel Contributions

Summary

In a Linux kernel mailing-list reply, Linus Torvalds rejects the proposal that contributors should avoid AI-assisted work or remove “Assisted-by” references. He compares such a rule with banning compilers and editors, saying that tool restrictions would be an unreasonable way to test competence. Torvalds says the expectation should be that contributors understand what they are submitting and do their best, regardless of the tools they use. He adds that, in his experience, capable people are often willing to explore new tools rather than avoid them.
