AI Engineering Fluency Tracks AI Tool Token Usage Across Editors and CLIs
Summary
AI Engineering Fluency, previously called GitHub Copilot Token Tracker, is a tool for monitoring token usage and AI engineering fluency across editors, desktop applications and command-line tools. It reads local session logs, so data stays on the user’s machine unless the user enables cloud synchronization or asks the GitHub Copilot app agent to analyze the statistics. Supported integrations include GitHub Copilot in VS Code and Visual Studio, VSCodium, Cursor, JetBrains IDEs, Continue, OpenCode, Crush, Pi CLI, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Claude Desktop, Mistral Vibe, Kiro and other listed tools. The Chromium-based VS Code extension provides real-time status-bar usage, dashboards and usage analysis, while the JetBrains and Visual Studio extensions provide corresponding tracking views. A Node.js CLI exposes usage statistics, fluency scores and environmental-impact information without requiring an editor. The project also offers a Copilot app canvas, an Oh-My-Posh prompt segment and an experimental GitHub Copilot CLI status line. Teams can deploy a self-hosted SQLite-and-Docker sharing server with GitHub authentication, optional organization restrictions and an aggregated dashboard, without requiring an Azure account. The former copilot-token-tracker extension is deprecated and prompts users to migrate.
