Hybro Open-Sources an Interoperability Platform for AI Agents

Summary

Hybro is an open-source hybrid multi-agent platform designed to let local, on-device agents and remote cloud services communicate and work together. It acts as the orchestration engine for an agent network, allowing developers to deploy, coordinate, and inspect clusters of autonomous agents. The platform uses the open Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol for protocol-agnostic message routing and supports multi-agent execution rooms for specialized agents handling multi-step tasks. Its Next.js dashboard provides real-time agent visualization, server-sent event streaming, turn timelines, and an A2A Agent Inspector for testing capabilities. An async FastAPI backend stores operational data in MongoDB and can use Redis for cross-process coordination. Hybro also exposes backend agent-network tools through a separate Streamable HTTP MCP server. The project is distributed through a CLI that configures providers, models, authentication, and services in validated JSON files under `~/.hybro`, then starts the application with Docker Compose; released installations use version-pinned images, while source checkouts can build from the repository. The documented stack includes the web app on port 3000, the API on port 8000, and MCP on port 8001. Developers can install the CLI from npm or use release archives, and the project documents requirements including Docker Compose v2.24+, Node.js, Python, and MongoDB for applicable installation modes. The repository warns that MCP currently has no authentication or user isolation and should not be exposed publicly. It is licensed under Apache 2.0 and includes bundled A2A agents, agent proxying, human-in-the-loop execution, image-generation support when an eligible model is configured, and lifecycle commands for upgrades, logs, status, and service control.
