A Chinese research team led by Greater Bay University professor Xu Disheng says it has fully proved the 3D Ghys conjecture, a problem that has challenged mathematicians for more than 30 years. The work used Intern-S2, a science-oriented large model developed by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, in collaboration with the researchers. The model handled large-scale, long-chain mathematical derivations, while the human team set the overall direction and selected promising reasoning paths through repeated interaction. A separate Peking University team led by Liu Ruochuan and Professor Dong Bin independently checked the result. Using a self-developed framework, AI agents, and massive parallel computing, the verification team formally checked all core theorems and produced hundreds of thousands of lines of verification code. The article says this confirmed that the proof was logically complete, gap-free, and valid. First proposed by French mathematician Étienne Ghys in 1995, the conjecture is a major problem in complex dynamics; its real-number counterpart remains open. The paper has been posted on an international preprint platform, and the verification code has been fully open-sourced.
