A Void Linux maintainer has given up responsibility for 113 packages after a dispute over the project’s rules for generative AI use. Contributor Andrea Brancaleoni used GLM-5.3-Flash with OpenCode to generate text comparing the impact of upgrading Go from version 1.26 to 1.27. Another maintainer questioned how the comparison text was produced. Void Linux’s contribution policy says contributions must originate from and be understood by humans, requires all AI use to be disclosed, and prohibits bringing AI review tools into pull requests, while allowing AI for research and learning. The generated text was not disclosed in advance, and the project considered its use a policy violation. The orphaned packages include Alacritty, Clementine, Docker-related packages, Kubernetes, several Python packages, and Intel Thermald. They will remain orphaned unless other Void Linux maintainers take them over.
